23rd Meeting of the ICAR Regional Committee Zone III and ICAR Seed Processing unit Inaugural at Imphal.
The 23rd Meeting of the ICAR Regional Committee Zone –III (30-31st May 2017) was inaugurated at City Convention Centre, Imphal on 30th May 2017. The function was graced by Shri Y. Joykumar Singh, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur as Chief Guest, Shri V. Hangkhalian, Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Govt. of Manipur as Guests of Honour of the function in presence of Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary DARE and Director General ICAR, New Delhi and other Officials of ICAR from different part of the country. Before that Dr. T. Mohapatra inaugurated the ICAR Seed Processing Unit and laid the Foundation Stone of the Farmer’ Hostel at ICAR Manipur Centre Lamphelpat, Imphal.
Members of Governing Body Shri RP Singh, Shri Suresh Chandel and Shri Sudhir Bhargava; Shri Sunil Kumar Singh (IAS) Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser ICAR, Dr. N.S. Rathore, Deputy Director General (Education), Dr. K. Alagusundaram, Deputy Director General (National Resource Management & Agril. Engg), Dr. J. Jena, Deputy Director General (Animal & Fishery Sciences), Dr. AK Singh, Deputy Director General (Agril. Extension), Dr. AK Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), Dr. KM Bujarbaruah, Vice-chancellor AAU, Jorhat & Dr. M Premjit Singh, Vice-chancellor CAU, Imphal and Directors from different Departments and State Govt. Officials participated in the meeting for strengthening the Agricultural Research, Development and Extension in the North Eastern Region.
In his inaugural speech as Chief Guest, Shri Y Joykumar Singh, Hon’ble Deputy CM of Manipur emphasized on developing irrigation facilities, double cropping, alternative to jhum farming, development of horticulture specially in hill areas for agricultural growth and development in Manipur and other NE states. Shri V. Hangkhalian Honourable Agriculture Minister, Manipur emphasized on use of high yielding crop varieties for enhancing production in the state to enable the doubling of farmers’ income by 2022. He also suggested to reserve seats for M.Sc and Ph. D programme in CAU, Imphal for in-service candidates.
Dr. T Mohapatra informed that while food production scenario of the region has improved substantially over last one decade or so, the region is still highly deficit in pulses, oilseeds, fish, meat, milk and egg production. Hence, concerted effort of Centre, State, NGOs and other stakeholders are required for a strong Research, Development and Extension Programme in the region to achieve self sufficiency in various sectors of agriculture and also to double the income of the farmers by 2022 in line of the Vision of Govt. of India.
Sh. SK Singh, (IAS) Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser DARE and Dr. NS Rathore, Nodal Officer and DDG (Education) briefed the house about RCM. Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre arranged the meeting with all the scientist and staff of the centre. Dr. SV Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam, Meghalaya who is the Member Secretary of the 23rdMeeting of the ICAR Regional Committee Zone –III proposed the vote of thanks.
